*Under Title 22, California regulations on staffing and other issues in acute care hospitals, specific nurse-to-patient ratios for some units have long been established. These units include CCU, ICU, Intensive Care Nursery, Cardiovascular Surgery, OR, Well-Baby Nursery, and Respiratory Care Units. There is also a requirement for at least one RN on every unit, so that if only one nurse is on the unit, it must be a registered nurse.
