Job Description This first level management position works under the supervision of the Director. The Assistant Head Nurse assists in ensuring quality nursing care based upon the age appropriate and developmental needs by providing supervision (indirect and direct) of personnel and activities in a specific patient care unit. Assists with the supervision of personnel, operational unit management and other related activities. Regularly performs the job duties of a Registered Nurse to include all aspects of the nursing process. Demonstrates and facilitates professional accountability and communication. Maintains confidentiality of patient and staff related issues. Demonstrates ability to perform managerial duties. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients on his/her unit.

1. Education: Bachelor's degree preferred.
2. Licensure: Effective July 1, 2003, a minimum of an Associates Degree in nursing, and a current California RN license is required. Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards.
3. Experience: Minimum of one to two years Clinical Registered Nurse experience preferred in specialty areas. Minimum of one-year experience preferred in nursing management role. Other management experience will be given consideration in lieu of one year of nursing management experience. Must have successfully completed the Pharmacology Test.
4. Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Precise hand/eye coordination and finger dexterity is necessary to administer medications, start IV, perform procedures and other direct patient care activities.
5. Interpersonal Skills: Ability to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, families, significant others, co-workers, physicians, and other staff members.
6. 3-5 years PACU experience. Critical care experience preferred. CPAN preferred.
